The Secrets to a Long-Lasting Bridal Hairstyle: Tips from a Professional Hairstylist

Are you getting married soon and stressing about how to keep your bridal hairstyle looking perfect throughout the day? Don't worry, I've got you covered! As a professional hairstylist, I've worked with countless brides and have learned a thing or two about making sure their hair stays put all day long. Here are my top tips for achieving a long-lasting bridal hairstyle for you and your bridal party:

1. Start with clean, dry hair. This may seem obvious, but it's important to make sure your hair is completely dry before starting any kind of hair styling when it comes to weddings and special events. Wet hair is not an option when needing to use hot tools, will most likely alter your timeline drastically if blow drying wasn’t discussed with your stylist prior to wedding day, and can lead to your style falling apart more easily. There is an old saying- dirty hair holds better! Yes and no. Dirty hair smells bad once it touches our hot tools and most importantly, you will not get good or long lasting volume or texture. Using dry shampoo is not an option to get rid of dirty/ greasy hair on the day of your wedding, although dry shampoo or similar products may be used on clean hair for texture. The best practice is to wash your hair the day before your wedding (only use conditioner on ends up into mid-lengths avoiding roots), have it blow-dried with mousse and humidity resistant product, and not wash it again. Your part should be in the same place you’ll want it to be for your day of wedding hair style. You can perform a blow out on yourself, ask a friend, or treat yourself to getting it professionally done!

2. Consider your hair type. Your hair type will play a big role in the success of your bridal hairstyle. If you have very fine hair, you may need to tease it a bit to give it more volume and hold. Alternatively or in addition to teasing, your desired style may require hair extensions (most bridal hair inspo utilizes hair extensions). On the other hand, if you have very thick hair, you may need to use more products and consider the comfort your hairstyle will allow (heavy hair all in an updo may cause headaches). If your hair doesn’t hold curl well, you may want to consider clip in extensions and/ or opting for a full updo. If you’re unsure about what you can achieve with your hair type, confer with your bridal hair stylist for suggestions!

3. Think about the weather. If you're getting married in a humid or rainy climate, you'll need to take extra precautions to make sure your hair stays put. Consider having a humidity-resistant treatment done before your wedding, such as Brazilian Blowout or Color WOW Dream Coat. Even with the best preparations, there's always a chance that your hair style will start to loosen or fall apart throughout the day. It is natural and even the most magical hairstylist couldn’t avoid this… unless they’re on site doing touchups throughout your entire wedding day. Don't be afraid to make small adjustments as needed to keep your hair looking its best. Ask your bridal hairstylist about providing a touch up kit, or create one for yourself including humidity- resistant hairspray and extra bobby pins to touch up your hair if necessary. We provide complimentary touch up kits to our bridal parties, so your stylist might as well!

By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to achieving a long-lasting bridal hairstyle that will look stunning throughout your entire wedding day. Remember to stay calm, breathe, and enjoy every moment of your special day!
